My guess would be that minor is generally in comparison to something (a minor share of the sales, a minor part of the total profit…) Marginal isn’t a comparison, and more often refers to profits, sales, and such (hence the phrase ‘profit margins’). According to a look up of the definitions on google, one definition of marginal is "producing at a rate that barely covers production costs; ‘marginal industries." Minor would work technically (Though then again, so would nugatory) but marginal is a more relevant answer.
I’m not really an expert though.
becuase marginal sounds better it’s semantics minor works but i believe it is bad grammar.
