What things for our home should we bring to Saudi Arabia from the US?
Under Family Category: Home Decoration
We’ve already figured out which most things have been nicer as well as improved labelled in SA, such as seat as well as home decorations… you might still finish up bringing a enclosure from a US, so what things am we improved off removing in a US? So far, I’ve suspicion of great set of pots, knives, a washer as well as a dryer. What else am we improved off removing in a US?

Well you can get a good washer and dry here, the same ones that you get in the states, go to Extra or Electro maybe even Saco. You are much better off buying undergarments from the US because there are very few good stores for those here, the good stores for them are over priced and only men work there and are always very ready to ask for your bra size LOL. Also while you can get very nice clothes here and some of them can be extremely cheap if you know when the sales are some of the brand names will be cheaper in the US. Bring a stove from there because the ovens on the stoves here are mostly gas and its harder to get the temperature set exactly where it should be. Also bring baking pans from there because most of the ones over here are weird sizes and a lot of them don’t even say how big they are. Get your bed set(blankets sheets and pillows) from there too because I noticed that the exact same cannon sets that are sold at Walmart for $20-50 are sold here for 2000SR and the ones nicer are even more expensive and the cheaper ones aren’t nice at all. Also if you want a dish washer get it from there because there will not be one in your house and there are not many on the market here either.
I forgot Books!!! because there are no book stores here except Jareer which doesn’t have alot. I would suggest bringing your skin care products from there too the stuff here has a lot of harsh chemicals and just isn’t as good.
Medicens…. Tylenol, Tums, Advil, Aleve, Pamprin, Midol, Pepto Bismal, Comtrax ect are not in the pharmacies here and the stuff that they have here doesn’t work nearly as well.
Actually furniture is a lot cheaper in the US than here. but, there’s a 20% import fee, so you’re better off just buying furniture here unless you get hired by a company who will pay for shipping a container or unless you’re planning to bring a car with you. The price difference between 20 foot and 40 foot containers is only about $1000 from what I found. We were considering shipping a container, but we decided against it once we found out about the customs fees of 20% for furniture. And, when my husband brought his car from the US, they over-estimated the value of it significantly, and he couldn’t do anything about it. He had to pay based on their estimate, not what the car was really worth.
I would definitely bring a good set of pots. I’ve had trouble finding pots I really like. Knives, maybe. It depends on you, but there are some good ones here, like Oxo good grips. Washers and dryers…there are good ones here, but you probably won’t find them on sale like you would in the US. You’ll pay full price. (if you want to see what’s available for washers and dryers, go to Extra, E Max, or Best.)
Buy clothes in the US, especially undergarments. Buy accessories and jewelry there too. Perfumes, lotions, anything like that is cheaper in the US.
Also, bring winter clothes with you. You WILL need them. Many homes don’t have good heaters, and it gets really cold in the winter.
A car if you don’t have any yet
. Vehicles are cheaper in US.
nothing..everything you need is found here in Saudi ..except may be ..ummm..Beer..
well when I first came here after university in us.. we got a container and shipped a whole apartment full of furniture I bought cheap from USA.. it took 6 weeks for the container to arrive here by sea..
but that was 12years ago.. Now ive noticed you can find everything here now.. they sell good american style furniture, american appliances, and good pots and pans etc..
I have found german products are now rivaling any good US product.. I found a whole set of stainless steel pots (like 10 piece set).. with lids and its lasted and in good shape.. we have excellent knives that come from US, Germany and ive found japanese knives seem excellent..
I have a maytag washer and dryer, they sell maytag, kenmore, general electric, whirlpool, all the american brands here.. I really dont see why you need to take the risk of shipping something here and it get damaged when you can just purchase it here.
at Saco and Extra stores (and even local stores) you can find all small kitchen electronics.. you can find microwaves, blenders, toasters, food processors. to your hearts desire.. Saudi is #1 importer from the world.. I think actually you can find more here probably than in your own home town in USA.. seriously.. I brag to my relatives there in USA the things we find here, that they cant.
they only thing you need is yoru good comfy american clothing.. if you have favorite jeans, sweater, shoes etc.. buy them from USA..
A car it’s much cheaper down in the states and even if it has high mileage it doesn’t matter down here (SA)and the gas is so cheap. I advise you to get your washing machine and drier I know it sounds crazy but my dad bought ours from down here expensive kind maytag and it has defects. If I would go back in time I would have gotten my old one from my basement. Get your stove and fridge too. Man don’t get me started. Oh yeah down here we have 110/210 electricity so don’t worry about it. Oh yeah if you like the simple American sofas then get your from the states, down here the colors and the styles are so crazy and if you wanna get any American styles they are so expensive ( 7000$) so just go to art van. if you have kids get all their sport toys along bikes/skates/rollerblades /electric scooter yeah because they are expensive down here and they will need those stuff to fill their time. Bed set of course. see all of those thing are what I regret. I am not a rich person am just a middle class American who like to safe every dime so it depends on you if you like to save or not. Oh yeah don’t forget splenda
some good pictures of your friends and home in USA
Just get your ass in here first….things are cheaper here and most of the times hiring company arranges for a furnished house for expats recruited from US and Europe.
it depends On you
Many people here bring their furnature from the state as they think they coulf find better quality with reasonable price. However, actually Saudi is an open market where things come from all over the world and you can find things in all range of prices especially in Riyadh, khobar and jeddah. Therefore I don’t you need to bring much with you
