DIY network and HGTV both have great sites for ideas. Also House and Garden has many software pkgs out that help with not just architecture but colors,designing,virtual design etc.
One of the best ways to get ideas is to go to the local bookstore and look for "style" books in there house and decor section. They are a series and are beautiful tabletop photo books-you can find rooms you love and do your own version. Italian style, Californian style, English style, French style, Jamacain style etc.-get the idea? Look at how a room "feels" and what is in it that attracts you-start with walls and major furniture and then add the "spice"
