First, take classes. If you aren’t a professional designer or decorator (they are 2 different things) you will need training to appear legit. Join professional organizations – there are many depending on your focus and training. Also, take business classes! You will do tons of pricing and need to know local tax law and general business admin stuff to make a good living at what you do. Write a business plan so you know what your focus will be and who to market to. This is a HUGE field, and focusing in on a particular specialty can be helpful. To find schools with design/decorating programs, check out the ASID website at http://www.ASID.org or the http://www.IIDA.org for the IIDA website. Both are professional organizations that offer educational, professional and business information to propective designers, students and the general public. Good luck!
