If you want materials that are good quality and cheap plus an amazing range to choose from go to the local souk. Not the tourist bazaars though. it may be a little more difficult for you to get you message across but the stall holder will call someone who speaks English and use them as an interpreter.
I bought loads of material for myself and friends and family in Australia on one in my earlier trips here, and everyone was not only amazed at the colours, design and quality for the prices I paid were incredibly low..
This is something you really have to stick to. Remember that material especially cotton is like buying books in Egypt, very very cheap,even with the exchange rate accounted for.
As for the quality,and fading some of the outdoor heavy printed cotton that has fantastic stripes and geometric designs in bright colours looked just as good when i was there in December, even after 5 years of Australian weather.
