Here are some of my ideas:-
1) Rangoli- You can make a Ganesha Rangoli…do the fillings either with rice, channa, dal or just coloured powder…try the link below for ideas..

2)Idols- I think it would be best to place a big idol of ganesha in the living room center table if you have one just for Ganesh Chathurthi day…the other rooms in the house can b decorated with smaller idols…
