Under Family Category: Family Parenting
Following my Mothers genocide we right away have scores of aged family photos we would similar to to put online for the good of my kids as well as their kids who appear to have mislaid which clarity of "family". we am not certain about giveaway sites as they have the robe of shutting down. But we dont wish to outlay the happening upon the professioanl website either. Any suggestions?

if you are talking about PHOTO STORAGE ONLINE.. there are many free ones, ie snapfish, etc.
As for them closing down.. SURELY you have all the original images on your own system..backed up to cd or other reliable backup, etc.
You WOULDN’T ever put something on the internet as your main form of storage, right?
ps
I am in complete and total sympathy with you, as I presently am trying to back up thousands of files/ images to something here, so I can let son in law come in and reinstall my system. And I just don’t have the extra funds right now for an external drive so I can just shift them over. Nah. that would be too easy.
I TRY to select the cream of the crop to keep/ scan / display.
Next step (when funds are there) is to take box after box of old SLIDES to be scanned in. One box at a time, and no way, am I letting them get lost in the mail.
If they appear to be very important ( as they are) I suggest plenty of good grade copies plus sending to sites that others can view BUT you need to tell them that the stuff is there – it is important isn’t it?
You can store the photos on a CD, without posting them on a free or paid genealogy site.
If you don’t have a scanner, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Walgreen’s and CVS offer this service for under $3.00, per CD, which holds about 200 photos.
I just finished a photo project of my ancestors, using photos from my collection and photos borrowed from family members.
I scanned each photo onto my computer, arranged them into folders (1 for paternal, 1 for maternal) in generations groupings according to surname, captioned each with the names of the family members, dates and places, occasion, etc.
I made a set for each of my children and sent a CD to each of my siblings and cousins.
The project was time-consuming, but it was fun.
Everyone was pleased with the outcome.
we use http://www.myfamily.com.
You set up a site for you family (it’s not hard, the template is there you just add your photos and stuff) and It lets you post photos, add family trees and family histories, recipies, reminds you of birthdays. Anyone with a username can add things, so your kids can post photos of your grandkids, their drawings, movies of their concerts/recitals, stories they’ve written etc for everyone to see.
It’s good for having discussions, people can comment on your photos and you send e-mail invitations to anyone you want to have access to create a user name and password to access your site.
