RACHEL ALEXANDRA – 2009 Mother Goose Stakes

Under Family Category: Mother in Family

Video of As tutor Steve Asmussen walked in to the Belmont Park saddling area, multiform yards at the back of his filly Rachel Alexandra, the immature child announced to him, “Mr. Asmussen, thirty lengths.” With the lifted eyebrow, Asmussen, who kept upon walking, pronounced to no a single in particular, “I’ll take three-quarters.” Well, it wasn’t thirty lengths, though it could have been. www.drf.com

unlike Rachel Alexandra, Zenyatta beat the best in the world. She not only beat them, but did so in hand. Why did Rachel decide to run in the Woodward against a bunched of washed up old timers, instead of facing a tougher field in the Travers going a mile and a quarter? Zenyatta is underrated, if anything.

who’s she beaten?

Peachycanyon wrote on November 14, 2009 - 5:41 am | Visit Link

wayyy overated, 7 graded victiories ( 5 g1′s, 2 g2′s) three against the boys and at 7 different tracks and not one beyer below 102 this year and the highest being 117 beyer speed figure.. haha, oh and this race is weak too- 44 3/5.. 108 4/5.. 133 4/5 under wraps.. haha, oh and the fact that she can beat the boys on 2 weeks rest is also overrated.

Willyrooster wrote on November 14, 2009 - 5:41 am | Visit Link

She is clearly not over rated. She wins by big margins in exceptionally fast time. Watching the running of this group 1 race, you would think she was competing against a field of hacks. Can she transition to turf, becuase if she can, I would love to see her on the world stage.

If she was overrated, why doesnt any horse, male or female want to run against her.. Zennata is a little overrated…

overrated filly

YES I remember Ruffian, she was magnificent in her own way.
but she broke down and that’s the only faul spot I can find on Ruffian, but also the most important one.
If the legs can’t support the power a horse brings, then how perfect is this horse really.
I’ve read an article that suggest that it was Ruffians breeding that took her life in the end.
both Reviewer and Shenaigans broke a leg and was destroyed.

Anyone else remembering Ruffian right now?

Dear EtceteraEtceteraa, I was just pointing out that these type of fillies don’t come along very often. So, yes, you should enjoy.

sagerider2 wrote on November 14, 2009 - 5:41 am | Visit Link

By the looks of this field and the two races that she won after this, If she is ever entered in another filly only race she may be the only one racing……unless if Zenyatta was there.

Those are very nice stats, sage. There have been many great fillies in history, but right now we’re just living in the present and enjoying this great filly Rachel Alexandra. It seems people always have a negative comment about why she’s great. She beat all the best males in racing this season, both older, and 3 years old. There’s no one left for her to beat. Thanks for your comment.

Dear EtceteraEtceteraa, it’s been a long while, but it’s not ever. Kincsem 1874, won 54 of 54, in 7 countries, won the Goodwood Cup, Grosser Preis von Baden (3 x). Check out pedigreequery.
Sceptre 1899, 1000 &, 2000 Guineas, Oaks, St Leger, 2nd Park Hill (just missing filly TC). Pretty Polly 1901 , 1000 Guineas, The Oaks, St. Leger, Park Hill St., Coronation Cup (twice), Champion St., Jockey Club Cup. (filly TC winner only lost 2 x).

………a opinion of someone from the land os Lusitano Horses.
With this I not want to underestimate the exceptional quality of Rachel Alexander.

Nature in its wisdom has unquestionable, there she knows why, the animal kingdom gives the strongest males, higher and FASTER compared to females, with few exceptions such as hyenas matriacal society. So the man runs more than a woman, the male cheeta more than female cheeta. Dogs, cats, etc, etc, and… horse males run faster than horses females. is the law. There exceptions but it is never the rule. If it is and it seems that it is, something is wrong. This is………………….

GBADCD wrote on November 14, 2009 - 5:41 am | Visit Link

By the way Dr. Fager is a completely different breed of animal from Rachel. He’d beat her carrying 135 lbs. and giving her 20 (which is what they WOULD stipulate, no joke). But you can only beat who’s around. And she’s doing that.

EtceteraEtceteraa wrote on November 14, 2009 - 5:41 am | Visit Link

haha. nah, no one is taking away from Secretariat (whom happens to be my favorite horse, along with Skip Away), but Rachel Alexandra is doing amazing things this year. Beating males thrice, including older males once. That’s worth merit, even if they aren’t the highest quality males she’s beating, she’s beating males. At a frequency that no filly has ever done it. Doing things no female horse has ever done.

EtceteraEtceteraa wrote on November 14, 2009 - 5:41 am | Visit Link

Secretariat, Dr.Fager and other run this race? The only way these and other great horses of the seventies to lose Rachel Alexander was distracted in the race with their beautiful legs… But no one takes the merit and category R.A.

GBADCD wrote on November 14, 2009 - 5:41 am | Visit Link

She set a new stakes record easing up….this chick is baddd

For Rachel Alexander and Zeniatta be considered the best racehorses of the USA that proves the mediocrity of the horses. This decade is the black in terms of quality of the history of horse racing in the USA. There was only one great horse, the unfortunate Barbaro. Remember, male horses have to outrun the horses female.

GBADCD wrote on November 14, 2009 - 5:41 am | Visit Link

I have seen Ruffian and this horse is simply astouding, Rachel Alexandra you are something else WOW

SxDxTrace wrote on November 14, 2009 - 5:41 am | Visit Link

Guess what, Deerhunter? There were only 7 horses in the Haskell. And she ran. And she DEMOLISHED THEM. You can’t even recognize talent when it smacks you right in the face. Your ignorance astounds me. Rachel Alexandra is defeating fillies and colts, older and same age… she is the most flexible horse ever. She is simply amazing. I pity you for not recognizing that.

HannahBay34 wrote on November 14, 2009 - 5:41 am | Visit Link

Low quality compared to what? Comparing US and European horseracing is an empty exercise. Different history, different geography, different economy, different rules. I’m glad you enjoy European racing. That doesn’t mean you need to put down US racing. Why not learn to appreciate both?

Darcy, you should be cautious before you call people “idiots.” When someone is both rude AND wrong, they look kinda silly.
I never said RA was in the Travers….I was making a joking reference to Quality Road, whom another poster kept calling “the Beast.”

She also has Imperatrice who is the 2nddam of Secretariat and Sir Gaylord. And Continue who is the 2nddam of Swale.

Sorry, I thought you meant Rachel
