1. Being obese or even moderately overweight
2. A family history of diabetes
3. High cholesterol or triglyceride levels
4. Gestational diabetes (having high blood-sugar levels during pregnancy)
5. Having had a baby with a birth weight of nine pounds or greater
6. Being of Hispanic, AfricanAmerican, Asian-American or Native American descent.
