It doesn't have to cost you a lot. You can go to the bank and pick of a box of coin (whichever denomination you like) for exactly face value. A box of pennies is $25, a box of nickels is $100, a box of dimes is $250 and boxes of half dollars or quarters are $500. The bank can pull out just $100 for you and you wouldn't have to buy all $500 if you didn't want to. Once you get a box, you can go through and pull out the better coins (there are books to help with this or websites). (keeping you busy, fit, feeling good about yourself) you could take cooking classes. Scrapbooking wont take you months but it can take up a few weeks if you get really into it, and i enjoy it. Try to embroider a small hankie, with an easy design. Then go to a more challenging design on say a tea towel.... so you will be able to make fancy pillow cases. I suggest keep yourself busy with things of your interest. As for me I like to write so I write poetry, go to the movies, work, shopping, go to the gym, hang out with friends, pretty much anything and everything you can do in your area and I guarantee the time will pass quickly. Ive been there and going through it a second time and his last deployment went a bit slow because I allowed myself to think about the time, but this time is passing so quickly because I am keeping myself occupied.
