Any negative experience with the law towing a 2.5 metre wide Hobby caravan in the UK on English plates?

Under Family Category: Hobby and Leisure

I am formulation upon shopping a Hobby caravan. we could do with a little feedback in regards to towing a 2.5 metre far-reaching trailer upon UK roads. Has any one ever been stopped by a military you do only that?

The real issue is what you’re planning on towing it with. If you are planning on dragging it behind a vehicle under 3,500kg GVW, then you will be breaking the law as the maximum width to tow behind a vehicle less than 3,500kg is 2.3 metres so you can, and should, be stopped by the police every time you go out. If you use a vehicle over 3,500 kg then you are fine – the maximum width then is 2.55m.

Don’t buy a caravan they are a menace on our roads. The police should fine and ban anyone found to be towing a caravan.

eriverpipe`s right. In reality, van or commercial vehicle is what is usually used to pull such a caravan, but then everyone will assume your a "pikey" and you`ll have difficulty finding caravan sites that will even let you in the gate !
